Using LankaSocial

You must be 18 or older, give accurate information, and keep your sign-in details to yourself. Be respectful: no harassment, threats, scams, impersonation or illegal content. We may limit or remove accounts and content that break these rules.

Community guidelines

LankaSocial is for real people and real conversations. These guidelines apply everywhere in the app: posts, comments, chats, groups, communities, events, businesses, photos, voice messages and profiles.

• Be respectful. No harassment, bullying, stalking or repeated unwanted messages. If someone asks you to stop, or blocks you, stop.
• No hate. Do not attack or demean people because of their ethnicity, religion, caste, language, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or nationality.
• No threats or violence. Do not threaten, encourage or celebrate violence, self-harm or harm to anyone, and do not share graphic violent content.
• Keep it clean and playful. LankaSocial has no adult area. No nudity, sexually explicit content or sexual solicitation, in photos, stickers, text or voice. Friendly flirting is fine; pressure and unwanted advances are not.
• Adults only, and children are protected. You must be 18 or older. Never share sexual or exploitative content involving anyone under 18; we remove it at once and may report it to the authorities.
• Respect privacy. Do not share other people's private information, such as phone numbers, addresses, ID numbers, locations, private photos or private conversations, without their permission. Do not post photos of someone to shame or expose them.
• Be honest. No scams, fraud or phishing, and no pretending to be someone else. No fake accounts, fake reviews, fake events or business listings, false emergency warnings, or asking for money under false pretences.
• No spam. No mass or repeated messages, repeated identical posts, unwanted advertising, chain messages, or automated accounts.
• Nothing illegal. Do not post or arrange anything that breaks the law of Sri Lanka, including illegal drugs, weapons, stolen goods, or content you have no right to share.
• Do not harm the service. No hacking, scraping, malware, or getting around blocks, limits or suspensions, including by making a new account.

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, use Report on the person, message, post, comment, group, community or event, or block the person. Reports are reviewed by administrators.

What you share

What you post and send stays yours, and you are responsible for it. By posting, you allow LankaSocial to store and show it to the people you share it with, in the way the app works.

Removing content and accounts

We may hide or remove any content, and warn, restrict, suspend or close any account, at any time and without notice, if we believe it breaks these terms or the community guidelines, has been reported and found harmful, is illegal, or puts people or the service at risk. Serious or repeated breaches may lead to permanent removal, and a person removed from LankaSocial may not return with a new account. Removed content may not be restored. Decisions are made at our discretion and we cannot promise a particular outcome or how quickly a report is reviewed.

Public content and search engines

Posts that are not in a private community, public groups and communities (never their chats), and events can be seen by anyone on the internet, including search engines such as Google, together with the display name and username of the person who wrote them. Private groups and communities, private chats, photos and anything you send privately are never shown publicly. You can switch off "Show my public posts and events to search engines" in Settings, under Privacy, at any time: your posts and events then leave the public pages and the sitemap. A search engine may keep a copy for a while, and how long that takes is not in our hands.

Safety and administrator access

Messages and chats you send in LankaSocial, including private one-to-one conversations and group chats, are not hidden from the people who run the service. Authorised administrators may view conversations, and the files and locations sent in them, and may view your whole profile, including details you keep private from other people (such as your email address, phone number, date of birth, and who you follow and who follows you), and everything you post, including your posts, comments, community posts and photo gallery, whoever you chose to share them with. They do this to keep people safe, to investigate misuse and reports, to enforce these terms and to meet legal obligations. Access is limited to administrators and is recorded. To protect accounts, LankaSocial also keeps a security record of sign-ins and failed sign-in attempts (when, the internet address and country, and the browser and device) for 90 days. You can see this record for your own account in Settings, and administrators can review it to investigate account misuse; reviewing it is recorded. To tell devices apart, the app also gives each browser a random device ID, kept in a cookie that only our server can read and stored with sign-in records as a hash. It is not your phone or computer's hardware address (websites cannot read that), and it is used only for account security.

No guarantee, and loss of data

LankaSocial is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and your content safe, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors, or that nothing will ever be lost. To the fullest extent the law allows, LankaSocial and the people who run it are not responsible for any loss of data or content, including posts, messages, photos, voice messages, profile details or a whole account, however it happens: a technical failure, outage, bug, security incident or maintenance, something deleted by you, by someone else or by us, or content removed under these terms. Things you delete, and the content of deleted groups, communities and accounts, are gone for good. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. We are also not responsible for what other people post or do, or for anything that happens if you meet someone you came across here, so take care. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the law that cannot be excluded.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continuing to use LankaSocial after a change means you accept the new terms.
